Institute for Innovative Learning, Mahidol University Hosts “STEM & Robotics Camp (Robot War)” to Develop Coding and Robotics Skills through Hands-on Learning, August 11, 2026

The Institute for Innovative Learning (IL), Mahidol University, organized the “STEM & Robotics Camp (Robot War)” for Grade 10–12 students from Kanchanapisek Wittayalai Nakhon Pathom School (Phra Tamnak Suan Kularb Matthayom) on August 11, 2026, at the Multipurpose Conference Room, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University, Salaya, Nakhon Pathom.

The camp was designed to provide students with opportunities to explore STEM, Coding, and Robotics through hands-on learning. The activities guided students through a progressive learning process, from becoming familiar with electronic devices and programming to designing and building robots and applying their knowledge in practical missions. This approach encouraged students to develop technological skills alongside analytical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork.

The program featured a series of structured learning activities. The first session, “Motivation and Inspiration Technology”, included Module 1: “Introduction to micro and Expansion Boards.” Students explored the micro board, its functions, and the use of expansion boards. They also practiced basic programming commands, operated devices connected to the board, and uploaded code to the micro through hands-on experimentation.

The program continued with Module 2: “Programming for Robot Drive Systems.” Students learned how to connect a drive system to an expansion board and practiced programming a robot’s movement using micro. They also explored radio-based control by creating a remote control and a receiver for the robot. The activity helped students understand the connection between programming and the control of physical robotic systems.

The next stage was Module 3: “Building the Robot.” Students designed and decorated their robots and tested their movement through commands programmed with the micro. This activity encouraged students to combine creativity with their knowledge of programming and robotics while developing their own robotic creations.

The program then progressed to Module 4: “Mission Challenge,” in which students applied the knowledge and skills developed throughout the previous activities to complete Robot War missions. Through designing, controlling, and testing their robots, students were encouraged to apply systematic thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork in a practical context.

The camp concluded with the “Closing Section: Debrief, Reflect, and Expanded Knowledge” activity. Students reviewed their learning experiences, reflected on the knowledge and skills they had gained, and explored how programming knowledge could be further applied to robotics innovations in everyday life. This reflection process helped students connect their hands-on experiences with possible future applications of programming and robotics.

The activities were delivered by the Institute’s team of instructors and teaching assistants, including Dr. Phongphatai Kitroongrojjanaporn, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mon-amorn Precharat, Mr. Namchok Khunmuenwong, Mr. Patcharasit Piyacharoen, and Mr. Phattanaphong Khonthiang, who provided guidance and support throughout the program.

In addition to the STEM & Robotics activities, the Institute for Innovative Learning, Mahidol University, welcomed and guided teachers from Kanchanapisek Wittayalai Nakhon Pathom School on a visit to the Institute’s learning resources and facilities supporting modern teaching and learning. The visit included the Mahidol Media Lab, Multimedia Studio, Master Classroom, and Virtual Classroom, providing teachers with opportunities to explore approaches to integrating digital technologies and multimedia into teaching and learning, as well as learning how modern learning environments can be designed to support diverse educational experiences.

The camp reflects the Institute for Innovative Learning’s contribution to bringing its expertise in learning innovation, educational technology, STEM, Coding, and Robotics into practical learning experiences for students and schools. Through a hands-on learning process that covers programming, robot design and construction, and mission-based problem-solving, students were able to develop technological competencies alongside essential future-ready skills.

From an impact perspective, the program created opportunities for students to connect knowledge with real-world practice while strengthening analytical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and technological application. At the same time, the teachers’ visit to the Institute’s learning facilities extended the impact beyond student development by creating opportunities for professional exchange and encouraging teachers to explore how digital technologies and innovative learning environments can be applied in their own educational contexts.

The “STEM & Robotics Camp (Robot War)” therefore represents another initiative through which the Institute for Innovative Learning connects knowledge, technology, and learning innovation with students and educational institutions. By providing authentic hands-on experiences and introducing learners to programming and robotics, IL contributes to developing learners who are prepared to apply knowledge, solve problems, and create innovative solutions in an increasingly digital world.
